About Papua Story
West Papua is located just north of Australia and west of Papua New Guinea. A former Dutch colony, West Papua came under Indonesian control in the 1960s after the implementation of a referendum under UN.
For almost forty years the people of West Papua have suffered local conflict which was caused by many different perspectives. Human rights abuses, ecological destruction and democratic violations at the hands of both Free Papua Movement and the Indonesian Military are the results of such conflict. In an effort to address these complex issues, I try to share my own personal view on Papua.

Papua Story 
It is not all bad in Papua, just like it is not all good in other part of the country. Your blog is different from many other websites on Papua which only campaigning about the unrealistic separatist movement. But you need to balance your opinion too because your blog rarely put an article about the mistakes of Papuan local government and Indonesian central government. Special autonomy is a success story especially if we compare the West Papua of Indonesia’s side with the almost failed state of Papua New Guinea. Three sides to every stories…just like your motto, right ?

A referendum requires a popular vote to gauge the population’s wish, the 1969 AFC was not a referendum and was not under any UN control, design or influence. The AFC was staged to claim the 1967 sale of West Papua’s mining rights by Suharto to Freeport was legal.
West Papua was colonized in 1962 by the United States unwittingly for the Freeport corporation. The US force the Dutch & paid the UN to sign the New York Agreement trading the COLONY to Indonesia. The US NSC and McGeorge Bundy spent 1961 telling Kennedy that the US had to do this to stop Indonesia becoming a communist State. Freeport director Robert A. Lovett in 1960 told Kennedy to appoint McGeorge Bundy as the US National Security Advise, in control of the NSC.

West Papua was illegally sold as a colony by the Netherlands to Indonesia in the New York Agreement of 1962. Freeport director Robert A. Lovett in 1960 told John F Kennedy to appoint McGeorge Bundy as the U.S. National Security Adviser, who during 1961 told Kennedy that he must force the Dutch to sell West Papua to save the US from communism.
The colony was sold because Freeport wanted its gold & copper which General Suharto would allow Freeport to mine.
The AFC was not a referendum. A “referendum” means a popular vote by the people. The AFC was not designed, implemented or approved of by the United Nations. The AFC was designed and implemented by Gen. Sarwo Edhi Wibowo; and approved of by Gen. Suharto.
The people of West Papua were sold to Indonesia in the 1962 New York Agreement, which was written by Robert Kennedy on instruction from John F Kennedy on the security advice of McGeorge Bundy. Bundy was a family friend & fellow bonesman of Freeport director Robert A. Lovett. The Freeport wanted to mine Papua’s gold and copper.

It is time to admit the obvious “special autonomy” has showed many success, at least in the way it has been implemented so far. However, the “unintended” consequences have been disastrous in several sector, especially in many cases of corruptions. Thousands of people have lost opportunities to improve their living standard due to the lack of managerial skills in local government.
On the other sides, Free Papua War Lords have taken over small part of communities. Conflict and misery has spread.
Corruption and separatism are undermining fragile democracies in West Papua.

Indonesia is prospering and the economic date shows signs of further development. Better situation will also apply to all provinces in Indonesia if the government continue all good efforts that has been done for more than ten years.
Your Blog on Papua Story is very very interesting, and you mention about three sides of any story. However, I rarely found the story from opposition part that your blog must cover too. So your blog will not be seen as a simple nice propaganda defending Indonesia. I find out that some of your original article are balance but many one sided to the government position and I also find a provocative attack to some elements of separatist movement in Papua.
As a process of understanding the whole picture, it may be good but people are not always happy to look at the whole picture. People tend to choose the picture that they like to see as the truth.

Indonesia had national laws in place to deal with separatism and all the wrongdoing in human rights violation.
I believe, Indonesia will be able to manage its own domestic problem democratically.
